Principal Gopher's Retirement Sheet Cake (Sock-Hop Frosting)
Principal Gopher — honored at the retirement sock hop where Lizzy led the conga line — mailed this recipe with a hall pass that said “BACK AFTER FROSTING SETS.”
What landed in my mailbox
“Yellow sheet cake from the box — no shame, only deadlines. Punch holes, pour vanilla pudding, chill. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles the color of crepe paper. Cut in squares big enough for second helpings on principle.”
Wendell brought a volcano-shaped cake to the sock hop; this is the cake that fed the gymnasium after the dancing stopped. I added prickly-pear tint to the frosting; Gopher called it “a dignified flash of school spirit.”
Carl’s verdict: Five stars. Feeds a faculty and a conga line. I doubled the pudding; Lizzy called it “extra credit, correctly applied.”
