Lizzy Lizard's Spelling-Bee Trail Mix (Xerophyte Optional)
From Lizzy Lizard — regional champ, state runner-up, and the kid who spells xerophyte like she's ordering lemonade. She mailed this after the state finals parade with a note: “Fuel for studying, extra polite.”
What landed in my mailbox
“Mix roasted pepitas, dried cranberries, mesquite-smoked almonds, and mini chocolate chips — equal parts optimism and crunch. Bag it in portions so you don’t eat the whole batch during stomatopod. Wendell gets the extra bag; he earned it.”
I added a pinch of cinnamon because Lizzy’s mother uses it in everything dignified. Wendell confirmed the second bag arrived before I finished typing this sentence.
Carl’s verdict: Five stars. Keeps you awake through consonants without bullying your stomach. I substituted store-bought mesquite almonds; Lizzy texted: “Acceptable diplomacy.”
