Jordan Jackrabbit's Softball Slider Sliders
Jordan Jackrabbit — Lady Quail slugger from the moonlight extra-innings classic and state semifinal run — says supper should be as fast as her swing and as polite as a squeeze bunt.
What landed in my mailbox
“Brown a pound of beef with onion and green chile. Stir in a spoon of tomato paste and a splash of pickle juice — trust me. Pile on sweet rolls, top with cheddar, broil till melty. Feed the dugout or the booster bus.”
I used potato rolls because the band director lent me a tray. Taylor Tarantula, watching from the stands in a parallel universe, would still tip her visor at the pickle juice trick.
Carl’s verdict: Five stars. Feeds twelve hungry teenagers or four coaches with dignity. I added a pinch of smoked paprika; Jordan called it “a respectful double.”
