Lady Tortoises Capture Spring Tournament Title in Another Five-Set Marathon

QUAIL HOLLOW GYM— Mesquite County Community College’s Lady Tortoises, still recovering from last season’s iced-tea diplomacy between points, opened spring tournament play like a team that had read the scouting report and the room-temperature menu. Head Coach Theodora Tortoise—no relation to the mayor beyond shared resolve—rotated middle blocker Rita Rattlesnake into the front row in set one and never looked back.

Setter Penny Pipit distributed sets with gravy-smooth precision through four seesaw frames against the visiting Jackrabbit Juniors, the same program that pushed the Tortoises to five sets in November. The fifth ended 17–15 after referee Mr. Owl reviewed a touch call with both coaches and his bifocals, a ritual this rivalry now treats as tradition.
