Ironwood 4×400 Relay Claims Sectional Revenge; Victor Rattler Outleans Caliche Anchor

IRONWOOD TRACK COMPLEX— Three days before Jessie Jackrabbit’s regional photo finish in the 4×100, Ironwood’s boys’ 4×400 relay opened sectional weekend with revenge on the schedule and Victor Rattler on anchor. Caliche’s lead evaporated on the back straight when Victor closed with the same lean that would nearly steal the shorter relay at regionals—this time it held. Official: Ironwood 3:24.11, Caliche 3:24.19, difference still thinner than a mesquite leaf, but eastbound.

Meet referee Ms. Ibis reviewed chip data while coaches practiced breathing exercises borrowed from yoga night school. Coach Jake Jackalope credited “patience with purpose in four-hundred-meter doses.” Coach Marmot called it “a teachable lean we will discuss after we finish being proud of Jessie’s week.”

Jessie watched from the infield and applauded without being asked—small-town sportsmanship, only scaled to fit spikes. Both programs loaded buses for regionals with shared respect and separate snack assignments.

Next up: the 4×100 rematch everyone’s calendar already circled. Timers advised to check their thumbs twice.
