Horned Toad Society Wins Regional Debate Championship on Civility Clause
RATTLESNAKE RIDGE— The Horned Toad Society—our town’s gentlest debating club and Thursday bookmobile regulars—returned from Casa Grande with a trophy the size of a bread box and manners intact. President L.T. Horn credited “preparation, hydration, and remembering the other side is also somebody’s cousin.”
The final round hinged on whether a town ought to mandate greeting strangers at the post office. Stevie Scorpion, moonlighting as research assistant, supplied Rural Route delivery statistics proving that “hello” correlates strongly with lower lost-package rates. Opponents praised the data and lost gracefully, which is the local definition of a perfect evening.
County Librarian Ms. Ibis hosted a victory reading on the courthouse steps, featuring essays on compromise and one dramatic recitation of the thermostat compromise chart, which drew knowing laughter from the Chamber crowd.
The Society’s next public debate covers porch-light curfews. Attendance is free; folding chairs and open minds remain strongly encouraged.
