Daylight Saving Subcommittee Holds Hearing at Edna's Bakery; Morale Enters Evidence

CALICHE CORNERS— Chairwoman Prairie reconvened her five-member daylight saving subcommittee at Edna’s Bakery, citing “a need for fresh testimony and fresher frosting.” The shop’s front booth, ordinarily reserved for bridge players, became a hearing room complete with a tip jar marked Public Comment.

Bakers testified that spring-forward Mondays produce flatter croissants and shorter tempers. School bus drivers reported children upright but philosophically confused. Mayor Tortoise submitted a written statement favoring “one honest time, chosen kindly,” which the owl neutralist read aloud to appreciative murmurs.

Edna herself offered a compromise batch: cinnamon rolls stamped with both seven and eight o’clock, “so folks can choose their truth with butter.” The subcommittee sampled gravely and requested a second plate for deliberation.

A report to the county commission is expected by autumn. Until then, set your clocks, set your expectations, and tip your baker—democracy, it turns out, pairs well with glaze.
