Butterscotch the Calf Leads Halloween Parade in Pumpkin Halter; Zero Candy Incidents
CLOVERLEAF JUNCTION— Butterscotch the 4-H heifer, county-fair champion and noted admirer of applause, led the Halloween parade Thursday in a pumpkin-orange halter stitched by Chairwoman Porcupine’s circle. Keeper Jolene Jackrabbit walked beside her in cowboy boots and a responsible amount of glitter, waving to families lined three deep along Main Street.
The Historical Jackrabbit Society float followed, depicting a tasteful tumbleweed castle. Lizzy Lizard marched as a walking dictionary—each page a vocabulary word, none of them scary. Stevie Scorpion handed out mail-themed thank-you notes instead of candy at the post-office float, a compromise applauded by dentists and librarians alike.
Mayor Tortoise judged costumes from a hay bale throne and awarded Best Group Spirit to the junior scouts who dressed as the arroyo time capsule, duct tape proudly visible. Rita Roadrunner rerouted depot visitors to the parade route with marked maps and free glow bracelets.
Butterscotch declined comment but accepted a carrot bouquet. If your porch light flickered around eight, that was gratitude, not ghosts—this town takes holidays seriously and digestion responsibly.
