Vienna Christmas Market Spiced Cocoa (Off-Season, On Purpose)
Christmas Markets in Vienna sold me spiced cocoa in a mug heavy enough to qualify as hand weights. This version travels to our desert winter — which lasts eleven minutes — with cinnamon, clove, and dark chocolate that refuses to be shy.
What you'll need
- 3 cups whole milk, 4 oz chopped dark chocolate
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons sugar, pinch of salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground cloves, tiny grate of nutmeg
- Whipped cream, mesquite honey drizzle, optional chili pinch for the brave
How it comes together
- Warm milk with spices — don’t boil; cocoa hates drama.
- Whisk in chocolate and cocoa until satin-smooth; sweeten to your conscience.
- Pour into heavy mugs; crown with cream and honey. Serve with cookies and municipal optimism.
Carl says: If snow is absent, pretend. The mug weight is non-negotiable.
