Jolene Jackrabbit's Rodeo Announcer Chili
Jolene Jackrabbit — 4-H keeper, rodeo announcer, and Butterscotch’s diplomatic attaché per the arena debut story — says chili should announce itself politely then stay for encores.
What landed in my mailbox
“Brown beef and chorizo. Onion, garlic, two kinds of chile — powder and diced. Beer splash, beans, simmer till the kitchen sounds like a crowd. Serve with Fritos shamelessly; apologize to nobody.”
I judged it beside Rita Roadrunner’s pozole on the same weekend — different sports, same hospitality. Butterscotch could not eat either but approved the aroma with professional neutrality.
Carl’s verdict: Five stars. Loud enough for the grandstand, gentle enough for the church potluck if you skim the grease. I added cocoa pinch; Jolene texted: “That’s announcer-level depth.”
